IT’S TIME FOR MUSIC TO BE MORE EQUAL

Equal Music is a digital equity project, created in 2019. There are currently hundreds of thousands of young people learning music in amazing social projects around the world serving minorities, refugees and those without privilege. A majority of them do not have consistent access to private lessons or mentorship. This sets into motion a systemic inequality of information, opportunity and access into professional music life—an unacceptable lack of diversity that is plain to see in the demographics of conservatories and concert halls. In the age of COVID-19, the situation has become even more severe. Social music projects provide incredible benefit, love and consistency for the communities they serve. We stand with them, and believe the global community of professional musicians can do much more to help build a fair and diverse musical future.

The Ilumina Family created EQUAL MUSIC to connect music students who lack access to consistent quality instruction with musical mentors around the world, free of charge. We know that even in the best of times many young musicians don’t get the information and support their talent deserves. Now, in the time of COVID-19, many more are isolated. We want to change that!
